Manchester United vs Everton preview
Wayne Rooney’s ‘testimonial’ after 12 years of service to Manchester United is all set to take place at Old Trafford. It’s quite a seminal game for the Englishman, as he invites his older side Everton to take on the Red Devils, with the proceeds of the game set to go to Wayne Rooney’s four favourite charities : Alder Hey Children’s Hospital, Claire House, Children’s Hospice, the NSPCC and the Manchester United Foundation
Aside from Rooney’s involvement, the game is all set to make history in a couple of other ways – it is the first game at Old Trafford for all of Jose Mourinho’s new signings, with the Manchester locals setting eyes on Zlatan Ibrahimovic and Henrikh Mkhitaryan in a Red Devils shirt for the first time.
In addition, this will be the first ever football game to be streamed live on Facebook. There is a potential audience of 1.7 billion Facebook users, who can tune in to Manchester United and Wayne Rooney’s official Facebook pages to view the game. Rooney expressed his pleaasure, saying “I am delighted my testimonial game will be streamed globally, which will hopefully raise awareness and increase donations.”
It is still unclear if Wayne Rooney will appear for Everton, but he did don an Evertonian jersey in Duncan Ferguson’s testimonial last season, a gesture that has gone a long way in reducing the animosity the Goodison faithful have held towards the Englishman.
