Zidane confirmed the future of Alvaro Morata after the win against Chelsea last night stating the club will not be selling the striker this season. Morata was sold by Los Blancos to Juventus a couple of seasons ago with a buy-back clause.
After impressive
performances for the Italians with one of those performances including knocking
his hometown club out of the Champions League Zidane decided to activate his
buy-back clause and bring him back to the Bernabeu.
Morata always had a
desire to return to his old club and even stated it was a dream to be back.
There were several rumours that Madrid wanted to sell the star with Chelsea and
Arsenal interested .
But his future has been confirmed by Zidane himself. After the
game against Chelsea, the Frenchman spoke about the game and his players. “It
was important to start strongly.” Marcelo starred for his team and Zidane was
happy with his performances.
“He's the captain and
he's showing the others what to do I'm delighted with the match he had.” He
also confirmed Jese is in talks with Paris Saint-Germain. “He's in talks
with PSG, although nothing is signed yet.”
And finally, he talked
about Morata and his plans for the striker. "He's a Madrid player, we're
delighted with him. He's come home and he'll be staying this year."
It comes as good news for Madrid fans but it remains to be seen how often
he will play for the team.
Cristiano Ronaldo,
Gareth Bale and Karim Benzema are still the main forwards for the club. Morata
might not get a regular starting berth but with Zidane at the helm, he might
give the Spaniard more playing time than what people expect.
Morata started yesterday
but did not get on the scoresheet. At Juve, he made 63 appearances but only
managed to net 15 times. He is still only 23 but his goalscoring record is a
questionable one.
Morata did have a good
tournament in France with Spain at the Euros. The Spaniard has 5 goals in
7 international appearances fo Spain this year, with an overall record of 6 in
13 appearances.
He ahs a long way to go
before he can prove himself to be a top goalscorer. Zidane has stated he will
stay this season at Madrid but if performances are not satisfactory then he
might have little choice but to offload him to another club once again.
